Gate level meter (also known asGate openerOr opening sensor) is a core measuring device used for real-time and accurate monitoring and feedback of the opening height (opening degree) of gates such as sluices and embankments.

It converts the mechanical displacement of the gate into an electrical signal, which provides key data for water conservancy and flood prevention, hydropower station power generation, and water resource dispatching.

1. Main working principle

The gate level gauge is usually linked with the reel, bearing or gate wire rope of the hoist. It uses precision mechanical transmission (such as gears, chains, or constant force rope winding mechanisms) with high-precision photoelectric encoders or contact encoders to convert the rotational movement into a digital signal, and then obtain the current vertical lifting height of the gate.

2. Core functions and functions

  • Real-time accurate display: the current gate opening is read in real time on the local monitoring screen or on the remote system, and the measurement error can usually be controlled at ±1mm.
  • Automation control basics: Combined with the water level count data, the PLC control cabinet can calculate the overcurrent flow rate according to the formula, and realize the intelligent automatic adjustment or remote control of the gate.
  • Limit and anti-tilt protection: cooperate with the limit switch to prevent the gate from being over-rolled, over-released or tilted during the lifting process (such as a two-cylinder hydraulic hoist).

3. Common signal output methods

In order to facilitate access to PLC or automated dispatching systems, gate level meters usually provide a variety of interface types:

Digital signal: RS-485 (Modbus protocol), SSI synchronous serial signal, parallel gray code.

Analog signal: 4-20mA standard analog quantity.

4. Selection and application type

  • Main command/shaft connection type: directly installed on the reel shaft or reducer shaft of the hoist, it is suitable for vertical flat doors.
  • Drawstring/take-up type: Built-in constant force take-up device, one end of the drawstring is fixed to the gate, especially suitable for curved doors or large gates with a long stroke.
